THE bLACK ALBUMEN
- HL45
- Release date | TBA
Glyn Bush, was previously a member of Rockers Hi Fi and Magic Drum Orchestra, as well as releasing music as Lightning Head. These diverse enterprises were all clearly rooted in dance culture. But Bush’s work as The black Albumen is a very different proposition.
With its atypical time signatures, punchy organ workouts and fuzz bass, this is music inspired by the approach and instrumentation of the 1970s UK prog rock trios Egg and Soft Machine. Nevertheless, The Black Albumen easily sidestep prog’s more baroque and sprawling tendencies, in favour of something concise vital and, at times, deeply funky with influences of soundtracks and library music.
The 2025 album ‘Overegginnit’ was a delightful combination of experimentation and melody, with Finnish poet and lyricist Hanna Ylitepsa gilding the work with her pure, clear vocals. The album’s charms did not go unnoticed.
‘‘Combines live drums, analogue electronics and ancient Finnish dialect to mesmerising effect.’’ – Electronic Sound
‘‘Somewhere between Tortoise and Holy Tongue… with doom-funk bass lines and organ that can ice the blood… this is totally different.‘‘ – The Quietus
‘‘Hugely enjoyable.’’ – Wire
Heaven’s Lathe are honoured to be releasing these exclusive new recordings by such a unique artist.
