JAMIE HOLMAN
- Welcome to Imperial Coffee
- HL39
- Release date | TBA
Jamie Holman was originally the singer/guitarist/lyricist with indie guitar band, and John Peel favourites, Tompaulin. He’s since gone on to become one of the UK’s most respected contemporary fine artists. His work encompasses painting, sculpture, photography, tapestry, print, ceramics, text, video and audio. This limited edition single on Heaven’s Lathe is Holman’s first vinyl artwork.
Since 2024, Holman has worked with the actors Christopher Eccleston, Jane Horrocks and Christine Bottomley to create audio pieces, which have been installed in a number of galleries. These artworks serve as the inspiration for Holman’s release with Heaven’s Lathe.
One side of the single sees Holman relocating Eccleston’s commanding voice to the heart of a lush lattice of guitars, recalling Spacemen 3 at their most hypnotic.
“Christopher Eccleston recites A Concise History of Industrial Violence, 1900-2000, a list of the century’s disturbances and discontents, looping like a flame-drunk moth.” – Northern Soul
The other side takes the texts and reinterprets them as a stunning choral work, performed by an 85 voice choir. This is a truly individual release, operating at the intersection of art, music and political history.
“In his mission to investigate and celebrate the subtle layers of working class culture, Holman questions prejudices, reframes fixed ideas about heritage, and illuminates new themes. There’s such a strong sense of play in his work, it’s hard to resist.” – Totally Radio
